The Work of Art In The Age of Mechancial Reproduction

''Even the most perfect reproduction of a work of art is lacking in one element: its presence in time and space, its unique existence at the place where it happens to be"

I think this passage means that its hard to remake a art piece because you can never fully grasp that particular moment when it was created. And what makes it so different is because it can never be made again in the way it was first made.

The reason I chose this passage is I feel that things cant be remade in the way it was the first time. Its hard to capture those feelings and thoughts you had when that picture was first made.

Junger

"In sensing the uncertainly and vulnerability of life as a whole, man increasingly needs to turn his sights to space removed from the unlimited rule and prevailing power of pain".

In my opinion the meaning of this passage is that people have to be able to find a outlet to escape the pain. That life may get difficult at times and can be painful but the best thing to do is find a way to escape the pain that life brings at time.

This particular passage interested me because I feel that people experienced everyday but they cant allow that pain to hinder them or break their spirit. So they have to be able to find a escape for the pain.

article 139

''Sunday and other state holidays are designated as days of rest from work and spiritual collection and are such, protected by law".

This means that the German are given days off on Sunday and special holidays. The government protects this decision.

I chose this because I feel its important that people are given days off in order to rest or spend time with their family.

Article 20

'' The Reichstag is composed by the representative elected by the German people"

This means that the German pick who they want to represent them in the government.

I chose this article because I feel that the people should be able to choose who they want to represent them in the government.

Essay

''Means of production has been destroyed on a monstrous scale. Millions of able workers, the finest and strongest sons of the working class, slaughtered. Awaiting the survivors' return stands the leering of unemployment. Famine and disease threaten to sap the strength of the people at its root''.

In my opinion I think this passage means that business decreased because of the war that was taking place. The people that were apart of the working were murdered and the people that did live they were left without a job due to the economy. A lot of people became sick due to lack of resources.

This passage relates to todays politics because some of the similar situations that take place when there is war occurs now. Many times when we experience wars our economy suffers a great deal because of the amount of money we have to put into funding the war. And when some of our soldiers return they are unemployed and cant relieve help.

M Movie

The scene from the M that I chose to write about is the part were Elise is outside bouncing the ball and the man approaches her asking her name and starting conversation with Elise. The reason I picked this particular scene is because it creeped me out the way the man was talking to the little girl. And in the beginning of the movie the kids were singing about the scary man. I felt that he was going to kidnap her and murder Elise which made me extremely sad that people do such things especially children.

Paragraph 175

Paragraph 175 was stating that they didn't want people of the same sex to engage in any sexual acts with one another. That kind of relationship was frown upon and they didn't tolerate people having sex with animals. If you were caught breaking these rules you will be arrested and civil taken from you. This relates to our class lecture because Marlene Dietrich was bi-sexual but this wasn't uncover until her death.

Cabaret Songs

"Its All About A Swindle"

''Papa swindles, momma swindles, grandma is a lying thief, were perfectly shameless but we are blameless, after all its our beliefs."

"Papa Betrugereien, Mama Betrugerien, Grandma ist ein Dieb Zwischen liegen, waren perfekt schambs aber wir sinel untadelig, nach all seinen unsere uberzegungen."

I believe that this means during that time in Germany  that there were a lot of people getting swindled out their money. Everyone was apart of this particular activity even the grandmothers. But even though it was consider to be wrong thing was a normal thing for people in Germany.

"Night Ghost"

"When the housewife chains the hallway door at night, I'm standing right outside"

"Legt die Hausfrau nachts die Kette hoch, im corridor steh ich davor. Mit der felie ohne Eile, Keck, feil ich se weg. Da illegt der Dreck.

This particular part in the song caught my attention because the ghost waits for the wife locks the door. He waits to unlock the door and roam the house. I feel that this a ghost from a man that died and roams the town. But he isn't there to scare anyone he just wants to watch them. Maybe they are related to him.

Movie Scene

The scene from the movie that I chose to write about is when the young man ask the man that was in a trance how long does he have to live. The man that appears to have mental issues responded not very long. The young man's eyes grew very big and you could tell that he was afraid and that fear had have took over. My interpretation of scene is that the man with the mental issues were able to future or that he had some mental issues and the doctor was using him as a lab rat. The man that appeared to have mental issues knew that the man life was going to come to a end very soon. The reason why I chose that particular scene is I noticed so much fear and emotion in that man's eyes once he learned of that news. The doctor and the man in a trance was very scary and they appear happy to let the man know his death would occur soon. This scene relates to class because it deals with German Expressionist.

Siddhartha by Herman Hesse

''A goal stood before Siddhartha, a single goal: to become empty of thirst, empty of wishing, empty of joy and sorrow". " Dead to himself, not be a self anymore, to find tranquility with an emptied heard, to be open to miracles in unselfish thoughts, that was his goal.. Once all myself was overcome and had died, once every desire and every urge was silent in the heart, then the ultimate part of me had to awake, the innermost of my being, which is no longer myself, the great secret.

This passage means that Siddhartha wanted to be empty of any feelings or emotions that connected him to the world. He wanted to be free of all things that didn't bring him peace, he wanted to find inner peace and find himself. He wants to be able to let his old self go so that he could connect with himself on a deeper level. He was on a mission to find the what was missing in his life but he was doing so without distraction.

This passage is important to me because I feel that people want to find themselves but they have to first let go of all the distractions that follow or that might come into play. I could relate to this passage because I feel that finding yourself is the best reward in life.

Picture Assignment

1. Edvard Munch was born December 12, 1863 in Norway, he went to college for technology but decided to leave in order to become a painter, which upset his father. He decided to follow his dream of becoming a painter. He enrolled in Royal School of Art and Design, at first he experimented with many different styles for example naturalism and impressionism. After many experiments he found that it had a limit on how much he could expresses himself.

2.The Scream, 1893

3. I think this picture is a man that might have heard or something shocking ahead of him or around him that it caused him to scream. It appears that he's on a bridge walking when he heard something or someone that probably disturbed him. The sun looks as if its about to set and darkness is soon about to approach and that's why he's either hearing voices or saying things. The picture looks very colorful and appears to have a lot of detail especially with the gentleman's facial expression.  The colors used on this painting are both light and dark. In my opinion I think the picture is saying that sometimes in life your surroundings or feelings can make you want to scream. Your feelings sometimes take over and you have no choice but to release them especially when you cant handle no more. The themes that I feel that are being addressed are the feeling of being lonely, stressed, afraid, being socially isolated and emotional. 'The Scream', 1893 (oil, tempera and pastel on board)

Dada Manifesto

"I don't want words that other people have invented. "All the words are other people's inventions". ''I want my own stuff, my own rhythm, and vowels and consonant's too, matching the rhythm and all my own".

The meaning of this quote is Hugo Ball wanted to be original and have his own style. He didn't want to sound like everyone else and he wanted everything that he came up to be different. The author is saying this because he wanted to stand out from others as well as have people pay to his work. The reason I decided to choose this quote is I like the message behind it. Hugo Ball is basically saying that he wants to stand out and be looked at different in everyone eyes. In my opinion that takes a lot of courage because many people are sometimes afraid of being looked at as different. I agree with the quote that I chose because if you are different then you will receive more attention and you deep down inside that you work is original. And its a awesome thing to be unique. The quote made me think of people in todays society that do certain things in order to stand out from everyone else. Nobody wants to be a follower. I think it does relate to things in the present because individuals don't want to sound like everyone. They would prefer to be different and possibly start a trend, and everyone wants something different from everyone else.
