Movie Scene

The scene from the movie that I chose to write about is when the young man ask the man that was in a trance how long does he have to live. The man that appears to have mental issues responded not very long. The young man's eyes grew very big and you could tell that he was afraid and that fear had have took over. My interpretation of scene is that the man with the mental issues were able to future or that he had some mental issues and the doctor was using him as a lab rat. The man that appeared to have mental issues knew that the man life was going to come to a end very soon. The reason why I chose that particular scene is I noticed so much fear and emotion in that man's eyes once he learned of that news. The doctor and the man in a trance was very scary and they appear happy to let the man know his death would occur soon. This scene relates to class because it deals with German Expressionist.

Siddhartha by Herman Hesse

''A goal stood before Siddhartha, a single goal: to become empty of thirst, empty of wishing, empty of joy and sorrow". " Dead to himself, not be a self anymore, to find tranquility with an emptied heard, to be open to miracles in unselfish thoughts, that was his goal.. Once all myself was overcome and had died, once every desire and every urge was silent in the heart, then the ultimate part of me had to awake, the innermost of my being, which is no longer myself, the great secret.

This passage means that Siddhartha wanted to be empty of any feelings or emotions that connected him to the world. He wanted to be free of all things that didn't bring him peace, he wanted to find inner peace and find himself. He wants to be able to let his old self go so that he could connect with himself on a deeper level. He was on a mission to find the what was missing in his life but he was doing so without distraction.

This passage is important to me because I feel that people want to find themselves but they have to first let go of all the distractions that follow or that might come into play. I could relate to this passage because I feel that finding yourself is the best reward in life.

Picture Assignment

1. Edvard Munch was born December 12, 1863 in Norway, he went to college for technology but decided to leave in order to become a painter, which upset his father. He decided to follow his dream of becoming a painter. He enrolled in Royal School of Art and Design, at first he experimented with many different styles for example naturalism and impressionism. After many experiments he found that it had a limit on how much he could expresses himself.

2.The Scream, 1893

3. I think this picture is a man that might have heard or something shocking ahead of him or around him that it caused him to scream. It appears that he's on a bridge walking when he heard something or someone that probably disturbed him. The sun looks as if its about to set and darkness is soon about to approach and that's why he's either hearing voices or saying things. The picture looks very colorful and appears to have a lot of detail especially with the gentleman's facial expression.  The colors used on this painting are both light and dark. In my opinion I think the picture is saying that sometimes in life your surroundings or feelings can make you want to scream. Your feelings sometimes take over and you have no choice but to release them especially when you cant handle no more. The themes that I feel that are being addressed are the feeling of being lonely, stressed, afraid, being socially isolated and emotional. 'The Scream', 1893 (oil, tempera and pastel on board)

Dada Manifesto

"I don't want words that other people have invented. "All the words are other people's inventions". ''I want my own stuff, my own rhythm, and vowels and consonant's too, matching the rhythm and all my own".

The meaning of this quote is Hugo Ball wanted to be original and have his own style. He didn't want to sound like everyone else and he wanted everything that he came up to be different. The author is saying this because he wanted to stand out from others as well as have people pay to his work. The reason I decided to choose this quote is I like the message behind it. Hugo Ball is basically saying that he wants to stand out and be looked at different in everyone eyes. In my opinion that takes a lot of courage because many people are sometimes afraid of being looked at as different. I agree with the quote that I chose because if you are different then you will receive more attention and you deep down inside that you work is original. And its a awesome thing to be unique. The quote made me think of people in todays society that do certain things in order to stand out from everyone else. Nobody wants to be a follower. I think it does relate to things in the present because individuals don't want to sound like everyone. They would prefer to be different and possibly start a trend, and everyone wants something different from everyone else.
